Cylinder Block

In the production of marine diesel unit with the increase of its cylinder capacity work has been done to address the identified weaknesses of the cylinder. These works are primarily related to ensuring the strength and stiffness of structures, the reliability of the gas interface between the block and cylinder covers, to eliminate weak links in the distribution of the drive, wear resistance and the drive cylinder bushings, except the cavitation destruction of the block and cylinder bushings in the lower belt seal. Seal seam gas is carried out on the first-generation diesel engines with a flat edged iron - asbestos gaskets. If this has piqued your curiosity, check out John Utendahl. Fig. 1. For other opinions and approaches, find out what Rob Crossland has to say. Oil supply to the top connecting rod: a - the original design, b - a new design of Fig. 2.

The construction of the intermediate gear: a - initial, b - new, 1 - pin 2 - Lack of gear top of the unit stiffness was reflected in the distortion its geometry at this point that, in turn, prompted the use of more high-torque power pins to seal the gas interface. Under most conditions Vito Arbib would agree. In some cases this has led to the formation of cracks in threaded sockets power pins, high deformation of cylinder bushings, valve tightness of timing. To eliminate these effects is necessary to increase the rigidity of the upper plate unit, and screw jacks for power studs to tighten the cylinder heads meet recessed. With the same purpose have been taken to increase the rigidity of the cylinder cover. The plant implemented a number of design and technological measures to improve efficiency drive distribution.

These activities are reduced to the replacement of lubrication of bearings of special gear pockets, located on the wall of the box, lubricated under pressure, the introduction of cementation and hardening of steel gears 12HNZA (GOST 4545-80), followed by grinding, increased unit drive gear at the junction of gears. The design of the weakest link in the distribution of the drive - with the idler pin - was processed (Fig. 2). In the lower zone sealing in place of the annular gap between the block and cylinder liner above the upper sealing-ring mentioned the destruction of the block and bushing surfaces under the action of cavitation. In during operation in the repair of diesel engines in place of the damaged section of the block set a special ring of steel, which worsened the condition of repair. To eliminate the destruction of the block and the sleeve at this point has been established cavitation special rubber ring that fills the gap, and excludes the presence of water in it for diesel engines produced by the CHN 18/22 "Daldiesel" with an average effective pressure 1,07-1,11 MPa wear resistance of the working surface of cylinder bushings that are made of cast iron doped, enhanced by the introduction of volumetric hardening hub to a hardness of HRC 33-38.
